The Photochrome Era of Postcards

Photochrome postcards finally merged beautiful brilliant colors and glossy photo quality images. Previously, postcards could only produce one or the other, but not both. Real photo postcards permitted actual photographic views, but only in black and white. Others, like linen postcards had the vibrant colors, but were only artistic renderings. For the first time, Photochromes allowed the ability to capture people, places and things as they actually were and in realistic color.

Working with the video of camcorders such as the Sony
HDR-HC1 can produce a serious business. HD video
contains four times the number of pixels that
standard definition offers, and it’s much more
heavily compressed.

Keep in mind that you need a powerful computer with
a lot of memory to deal with the extra data and
compression. Pinnacle for example, recommends a
minimum 512 MB of RAM and a graphics card with 128
MB of RAM for standard resolution video, although
that goes up to a GB of RAM and a 256 MB graphics
card when working with 1080i HD video.

Exploring the Moon with Your Child

Every child, at some point in their life, notices the moon. As adults, we probably tend to ignore it. But for children, the wonder is just being awakened. For some kids, its a phase. For others, it may be the beginning of a life long love of astronomy.

If you know very little about astronomy, the moon is a very easy place to start. Here’s some ideas to help you explore the moon with your children.
